Sports Injury

Do you suffer with sport injury?

Chiropractor Callum Sibbald is helping patients in Basingstoke who suffer with sport injury.

Sports injury clinic Basingstoke at the Aquadrome using chiropractic treatment to restore function to muscles and joints, reduce pain and increase strength and coordination, to improve performance.

Sports injuries can be brought about by traumatic events or repetitive stress patterns. Over time the integrity of the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments can be compromised leading to sprain strain injuries. This in turn will lead to weakness of the muscle and abnormal movement patterns of the joint.  Ultimately pain receptors are activated and performance is reduced. Tendonitis is a common problem experienced through injury, which is inflammation of the tendon leading to pain.

If an acute injury is not addressed, degenerative changes can manifest  in the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints, leading to long term weakness and pain.

Rotator cuff injury is a good example of an over use sports injury. Classically the external rotator can strain as a result of repetitive patters such as throwing or swimming. The muscle will develop a cluster of trigger points which are hyper contracted bands of muscle and connective tissue. Blood flow to this region of the muscle is reduced starving the tissue of oxygen and nutrients and preventing the removal of toxins that activate pain receptors. Tendonitis generally sets in at the same time.

Stiffness and weakness of the muscle will lead to abnormal loading of the other rotator cuff muscles that in turn may develop trigger points, pain and weakness. This scenario can lead to a painful arc syndrome of the shoulder gleno-humeral joint and can also cause a frozen shoulder. Over time other muscles of the shoulder girdle, pectoral girdle and neck can be compromised and lead to other pain syndromes developing.

All muscles have the potential to strain and develop trigger points if traumatized or over used. Other classic areas of injury are the hamstrings, gluteus and lumbar postural muscles. Muscle and joint combination injuries such as tennis and golfers elbow. Wrist injuries and knee injuries such as patellar tendinitis, lateral and medial collateral and cruciate ligament sprains and meniscus injuries.

Basingstoke Chiropractic is a sports injury clinic Basingstoke and treats a multitude of conditions when the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints are involved. Treatment is aimed at promoting healing of these soft tissues and restoring proper movement patters to the joints.
